It saddens me to know that the cultural diversity that makes Los Angeles so vibrant and unique also makes it appealing to traffickers, whose victims live hidden among us. We must unite as a city to send a clear message to those who trade in human lives: Los Angeles does not tolerate human trafficking.
- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa
Most people are shocked to learn that men, women and children are enslaved in forced labor and commercial sexual exploitation here in Los Angeles County. Educating the public and training law enforcement and service agencies will help us identify and rescue more victims of modern-day slavery and increase the prosecution of those who profit from the trafficking of human beings.
